Clarmor Heinrich Abel : Sonata Cuccu
for Violin, Viola da gamba and Basso continuo
ISMN
In this sonata by Clamor Heinrich Abel (1634-1696) three cuckoos gaily and engagingly invite us to musical and vernal joy without overly demanding technical resources on the violin, the gamba and the harpsichord.
The Abels were a famous family of musicians active in northern and central Germany throughout the 17th and 18th centuries and known as viola da Gamba players. Clamor Heinrich Abel belonged to the third generation of the family and was the grandfather of the famous gamba virtuoso Carl Friedrich Abel.
