Green Sleeves to a Ground consists of 15 variations on the renowned eponymous traditional song and a basso ostinato; no doubt the most popular work of The Division Flute (London 1706).

This new edition of Green Sleeves to a Ground adds a new part for the viola da gamba and leaves the recorder part unchanged. Not only does the new viola da gamba part strengthen and vary the bass part; sometimes it takes center stage as a full-blown counterpoint to the divisions of the recorder.

Obviously other forces are possible, like exchanging the recorder for a flute and the viola da gamba for a cello. For keyboard players unfamiliar with a figured bass, the basso continuo had been written out.
