Nicola Antonio Porpora: Fille oh Dio chi t'asconde
Cantata for Mezzo-Soprano (Soprano), Treble Recorder and Basso continuo
The cantata consists of two secco recitatives and two da-capo arias. The two arias are very theatrical and show many typical features of the Neapolitan opera, such as the even distribution of the themes and motifs between upper voices (voice and recorder), rich ornamentation both with long coloraturas and short appoggiaturas or trills, and surprising and bold harmony.
While only a handful of figures were noted down in the manuscript, basso continuo figures and a realization of the basso continuo have been added in this first edition of Fille oh Dio chi t’asconde.
