Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: 12 Fugen für Streichquartett (1821)
ISMN
These 4-part fugues were composed by 12 year old Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy during his composition lessons with his teacher Carl Friedrich Zelter. They provide an insight into the rather old-fashioned way Zelter taught his young pupil composition techniques as they were used half a century earlier. At the same time, the early formation of Mendelssohn’s personal style can already be noticed in some parts.
These pieces of moderate technical level are worth to be played in performances. Also for string orchestra.
